Compost is community.

Over 1/3 of NYC's residential waste is organic. Composting food scraps diverts that waste from landfill, activates ecosystems and grows community.
Groundcycle is a New York City-based composting company. I've been involved for 3+ years in food rescue operations, driving community fridge drop-off routes, tabling at events, producing special projects like our Seedlin zine, and helping to process almost 700,000 lbs of compost from residential and commercial clients. Partners include Gorillas, Getir, PrecycleMaison Jar, Vinegar Hill Community GardenGarden of Eve Organic Farm, McEnroe Organic Farm, and Isle of Us.
Seedlin is a diverse blend of composting basics alongside member-submitted recipes, community resources, and an interview with founder Vivian Lin.  I helped write, design, print, and bind. The publication is fully compostable and was printed in December 2023 at Lucky Risograph.
As of November 2024 I'm rewriting our website to focus on Business and Events services—not just Residential.
This is a single week's worth of rescued food.
We start by picking up fruits, veggies, bread, unsaleable packaged food and so much more from Getir's grocery delivery centers across New York City. We compost the spoiled food (usually only 10% of total) and deliver the rest to community fridges.
